| Job Title: VEX Operations Engineer |
| Description |
| To support ESA’s Venus Express (VEX) mission, and in particular the Venus Express Science Operations Centre (VSOC) in the Science Directorate at ESAC we are looking for a:
VEX Operations Engineer
The main tasks of the VSOC are:
- Science observation planning and preparation of the Science Activity Plan
- Timeline conflict resolution
- Science data archiving/handling
- Science communication and PR plan
Key tasks and Responsibilities:
The planning (short-term) will be based on the monthly medium-term planning and encompasses the actual production of telecommand sequences to be sent to the VEX Mission Operations Centre for uplink to the spacecraft. The following tasks need to be performed:
• Collecting the short-term planning input from the PI teams;
• Using the EPS/PTB and MAPPS software tools, check the PI input for correctness;
• Iterating the operational requests with the PI teams;
• Forwarding the consolidated operational requests to the VMOC in the form of Payload Operational Request (POR) files;
• Iterating the operational requests with the VMOC (VEX Mission Operations Centre);
• Preparing monthly intervals, medium-term plans;
• Coordinating the medium-term planning inputs from the PI teams.
Skills and Experience:
• Experience in Science Operations and related software, in particular he/she should have:
• Experience with the software tools EPS, PTB, and MAPPS;
• Knowledge of operational request files like POR files, ITL files, PTR files.
• Engineering Degree or Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent);
• Fluent in English; knowledge of another ESA’s member state language is an asset;
• Willingness to work in a small, highly motivated team.
